Ironmacannie Mill is located on the edge of the vast 75,000 hectare Galloway forest park, the only extensive wild area in southern Scotland, accommodating a great range of trails to please walkers and mountain bikers alike.

The area offers vital shelter for some of Scotland’s more endangered wildlife. You can admire the gracefully gliding red kites and catch red squirrels busy at work foraging. The Galloway forest park also has an area where you can find an ancient breed of wild goats roaming.

The Galloway forest park is also the only dark sky park in the UK, claiming also to have the darkest night in the whole of Europe. Here you can certainly feel the magic and see the detail of the vast night sky without light pollution.

Situated just a couple miles off the shores of Loch Ken where you can find a range of water sports. See what the Galloway Activity Centre has to offer.

New Galloway hosts the local community culture hub, the CatStrand, that does a great job in keeping these rural parts of Dumfries and Galloway culturally vibrant. Interesting visitors and events are copious and frequent.

The nearest larger shops, with a great variety of local produce, are located 12 miles away, in Scotland’s “food town” Castle Douglas.

The Solway coast, a designated area of ‘outstanding natural beauty‘ is certainly worth a visit. Along the route A75, on the way to Stranraer, you can also find many picturesque towns that tempt a traveller to stop. The Solway coast heritage trail leads to good few points of interest.
